Maika gets her wish!

  • Date: Sunday, November 7, 2021
  • Time: 12 - 2PM (PT)
  • Location: Z Hotel, 233 Broadway, Jack London Square in Oakland, CA
  • Key attendees: Mayor Libby Schaaf, Make-a-Wish Greater Bay Area CEO Betsy Biern

Maika is an 11-year old artist living with severe aplastic anemia. She wished to create a public mural – showcasing her artwork and creativity to inspire others in our community. The Riaz Capital team had the privilege of providing space and materials to bring this mural to life at our 233 Broadway property - the site for the Z hotel, which will be converted into middle-income housing units.

With the help of a local muralist, Hueman, and friends and family, Maika’s artwork was finally completed and unveiled to the public on November 7th. The event was attended by Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area CEO Betsy Biern, Mayor Libby Schaaf, and other stalwarts of our community.

The mural will act as a symbol of strength for our community, and Maika hopes it will encourage artistic expression in the area. Speaking about the event, Riaz Taplin said, “I'm proud of our little city which is brimming with talent and potential for growth.”

This mural will be an integral part of our Jack London Square property for years to come.
